Grade 9 Geography is offered as part of the Canadian & World Studies curriculum at Saugeen District. In applied or academic Geography, students explore the geography of Canada. Students will be exposed to a range of topics encompassing both human and physical geography. Throughout the course, students have an opportunity to build their critical thinking and spatial awareness skills. Students are exposed to many current events and make meaningful connections to our local, national, and global environments.
Students may also have the opportunity to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze data and discover spatial patterns. Through the use of ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Survey 123, Storymaps, and Collector for ArcGIS, students will collect and present their information in meaningful ways.
As well, students often conduct local field work in the community. Be prepared to learn about the political, social, economic, and environmental aspects of a variety of issues and case studies! In senior courses, students have the option to study Physical Geography, World Issues, and Geomatics at a deeper level. Other courses offered in the Canadian & World Studies program include Canadian History, Ancient Civilizations, Civics, and Understanding Canadian Law.
The Canadian & World Studies Department looks forward to welcoming you to the geography program at SDSS!
