FrenchAs one of Canada’s two official languages, FSL is a vibrant program at SDSS. Students have significant advantages when they speak more than one language. Learning another language helps students:
SDSS provides excellent programming in both the Core Program and the Extended French Program. All students are well prepared to write the DELF (Diplome D’Etudes en Langue Francaise) at the B1 or B2 level by the end of their grade 12 year. This is an internationally recognized French proficiency exam. Extended French ProgramThe aim of the Extended French program is to develop students’ French language knowledge and skills and to provide them with an understanding and appreciation of francophone culture in Canada and around the world. Students will take four Extended French language courses and three additional courses in other disciplines in which French is the language of instruction.
By the end of the four-year program, if students have successfully completed the seven courses, they will receive an SDSS based Extended French Certificate with their provincially based Ontario Secondary School Diploma. We encourage our Extended French students to challenge the internationally recognized DELF (Diplôme d’études en langue française) exam at the end of their grade 12 year. Bluewater District School Board has traditionally paid for this exam for students who have completed their grade 12 French studies. This exam will officially assess their level of French proficiency. |
*Please note that the three additional courses taught in French are offered on a three-year cycle.
